Conference centre

In the very heart of Westminster, The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre is ideally located to take advantage of everything London has to offer and some of London's best known landmarks provide a stunning backdrop for CPEM 2004.

London is served by four international airports, Heathrow airport is just 30 minutes away from The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre. The Centre is also only minutes away from both Victoria and Waterloo mainline train stations, and with the Eurostar terminal at Waterloo, the Centre has instant access from Northern France, Brussels and Paris. The tube links from Westminster and St.James' Park are just a few minutes walk away and give direct access to the rest of London.

Uniquely situated in the shadow of Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the BA London Eye, the award winning Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre is a premier purpose built venue. Specialising in events of 40-1000 delegates, and offering the finest facilities, the Centre combines modern comfort with the very latest in technology.

Conference dinner venue

The Science Museums' 'Making the Modern World' gallery is a chronicle of some of the most significant items in the Museum's collection. These are the icons that formed modern society, including the 'Apollo 10' command module, scorched and battered from its 1969 moon mission and the world's most famous steam engine, Stephenson's 'Rocket'.

National Physical Laboratory

NPL is the United Kingdom's national standards laboratory, an internationally respected and independent centre of excellence in research, development and knowledge transfer in measurement and materials science. For more than a century we have developed and maintained the nation's primary measurement standards - the heart of an infrastructure designed to ensure accuracy, consistency and innovation in physical measurement.

New Laboratory at NPLNPL's new state-of-the-art laboratory is currently being constructed on our existing site in Teddington, funded under PFI (Private Finance Initiative). It will eventually provide 36,000 m² of scientific laboratories, engineering workshops, offices, meeting rooms, library and other supporting facilities arranged over sixteen interlinking modules.

Special attention is being paid to high environmental stability, low vibration and minimising magnetic and electromagnetic fields. This will allow the most advanced standards to be realised, many exploiting effects at the atomic level.

The scientific areas are flexibly designed to meet NPL's demanding metrology requirements well into the next century. Co-location of all services within one building will increase NPL's efficiency, enabling us to provide improved services
